MAIN FUNCTION:
  • Provide psychiatric evaluation and care of the patient while at Seafield’s facility.  Make appropriate referrals for further treatment if necessary. To participate actively in the education process via the lecture or workshop system.  To ensure that all clients are psychiatrically acceptable for treatment at Seafield.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
-All adjustments in medication where indicated.
-Re-examining and treatment of each patient pertinent to mental complaints ranging from supportive reassurance to specific treatment of existing mental illness.
-Conferences on patients, employing all staff observations as to ongoing progress and attitudes of patients.
-Consultations with family as to care, management and health of the patient, where indicated.
-Re-evaluation of existing mental status of client.
-Conferring with alcohol and substance abuse counselors as to ongoing progress and attitudes of clients.
-Meets all appropriate criteria of regulatory, surveying and accrediting bodies.
-Will assure that Seafield’s policies and procedures and federal regulations regarding confidentiality of clients and client records are adhered to.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
 
COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
 
-Assist with supervision of nursing staff and document supervisory activities.
-Provide input in formulating the philosophy and objectives of Seafield and interpret and implement all policies and procedures.
-Assist with reviewing work performance in determining conformance to recognized standards.
-Assess client’s psychiatric history and current psychiatric status.
-Administer medications as appropriate.
-Assist in assessing detoxing clients and medicate appropriately.
-Proficient in computer usage including EMR system, Microsoft Outlook and other information systems.
 
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
 
A Nurse Practitioner  who is licensed to practice in the State of New York, and is Board Certified in Psychiatry(PMHNP) and has at least one year of alcohol and substance abuse treatment experience.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

-While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. 
-The employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach.
-Assist in ambulation and transfer of patients as necessary.
-The position may on occasion require the employee to stoop kneel or crouch.
-The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned and makes general observations.
