MAIN FUNCTION:

  • The supervision of the nursing staff and to maintain a level of staffing consistent with client care needs.
  • User role(s) information systems access as assigned, where applicable
  • This position is classified as Essential for emergency closure purposes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Order, maintain and utilize supplies and equipment in a cost effective manner.
  • Attend case conferencing and staff meetings with the Clinical Department.
  • Facilitate monthly staff meeting.
  • Facilitate and coordinate infection control program.
  • Maintain line of authority and responsibility among nursing staff and assist and inform the Medical Director in a timely manner the duties and performance of nursing staff.
  • Develop and implement Performance Improvement for the Nursing Department.
  • Serve as a member of the Executive Committee.
  • Serve on Clinical Management Team.
  • Inservice staff as needed on medical issues.
  • Assess appropriateness of admission of incoming client.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Supervision of nursing staff and document supervisory activities.
  • Provide input in formulating the philosophy and objectives of Seafield Center and interpret and implement all policies and procedures.
  • Review work performance in determining conformance to recognized standards.
  • Maintain level of staffing consistent with client care needs and coordinate time schedules.
  • Be part of the OnCall Administration schedule.
  • Perform admission Nursing Assessment and make appropriate nursing diagnoses based on that assessment.
  • Assess client’s psychiatric history and current psychiatric status.
  • Initiate appropriate Nursing Care Plans.
  • Administer medications as ordered by the physician, understand basic pharmacology, and be proficient in the use of a nebulizer.
  • Proficient in basic nursing skills and also competent in taking an electrocardiogram, accucheck for diabetes, and intoximeter.
  • Proficient in computer usage including EMR system, Microsoft Outlook and other information systems.
  • Assess detoxing clients and medicate appropriately.
  • Age specific clinical skills related to the adolescent and geriatric client.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

New York State Registered Nurse licensure; minimum of one year experience in the alcohol/substance abuse field with proven competence. Prior experience in a supervisor/management position. BSN required.

  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned and makes general observations.
