Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and order in the kitchen area, dining room and preparation set up areas.
Assists in preparing foods for delivery to residents.
Clean and sanitize service areas and prep areas after each meal.
Orders supplies as needed for daily use and to maintain areas in sanitary conditions.
Assures availability of beverages for each meal.
Assists in taking inventories, putting supplies away.
Maintains necessary records at food serving and dishwashing sites.
When necessary, washes pots, pans and other utensils by hand and/or machines. May even have need to wash dishes, etc…by hand and/or by machine.
Performs a variety of tasks in the area of food service:
Sets service counter, etc…assist clients as needed.
Serves food in the proper portions to clients.
Ensures those clients on special diets or who have special needs receive proper foods and portions.
Cleans dining room and service areas including furniture, woodwork, windows, floors and steam tables.
Informs Head Cook or Director of Nutrition Services of any malfunctions of equipment or problems in the kitchen and/or dining room.
Performs any task asked or required of them by the Cook or Director of Nutrition Services.
Performs other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Proficient in assisting in various forms of food preparation, ex: evening sandwich snacks.
Knowledge of correct use of cleaning products
Proficient in basic cleaning and sanitizing skills including dishwashing.
Ability to correctly label, date, rotate, and store food products.
Good communication skills
Ability to perform simple math functions

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience in large-scale food preparations or cooking or satisfactory completion of an on-the-job six-month training program.
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must be able to read, write and speak English

performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to twist, bend, push, pull, lift, kneel, reach, stoop, and climb stairs. This position is very active and requires standing and walking all day.
The employee is frequently required to use hands to grasp or feel and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned and makes general observations.
